Mahasamdhi Aradhana Camp 2025
50th Year of CHYK National Celebration
With Bhagawan's krupa and Pujya Gurudev's blessings, CHYK West hosted a six-day long grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra. The National CHYK program at the Chinmaya Mahasamadhi Aradhana Camp in San Jose brought together 140 CHYKs from all across North America.
It was an incredible experience in Vraj Bhoomi, absorbed in Swami Swaroopanandaji's depiction of the divine love of the gopis, refreshed by Swami Prakashanandaji's inspiring sessions, entertained by the anecdotes from the Brahmacharin Panel, and awed by Swami Aparajitanandaji's sharp insight in Q&A. In addition to this, CHYKs had a buffet of morning exercises, riveting group discussions, impactful seva with seniors, engaging workshops, and an enthralling CHYK bhajan session with Swami Prakashanandaji.
Commencing Camp with Guru's Grace
The camp kicked off on Tuesday, July 29th with a warm welcome. The procession of Swamins and Brahmacharins, led by Swami Swaroopanandaji, walked through a hallway lined by enthusiastic CHYKs, dressed up as the Gopas and Gopis of Vraj, singing to Guru Stotram, Trinidad style. This was followed by a classical dance piece by a few CHYK dancers. Three of the CHYKs then gave poetic introductions for each of the Swamins and Brahmacharins. After a beautiful opening discourse on Gopika Geet, a CHYK Icebreaker Session concluded the night, sparking connections that would grow throughout the week.
Mornings of Discipline and Devotion
Mornings began with Mukundamala chanting led by Swami Aparajitanandaji and guided meditation sessions by Swami Ishwaranandaji. CHYKs then led various exercises including yoga, musical HIIT workouts, morning walks, and dandiya, ensuring that everyone was bright and energized for the activities to come. After morning exercise, CHYKs had a special CHYK-only satsang with Swami Prakashananda on Manah Shodhanam, learning how to purify our minds. Swamiji also spoke on Perspectives of Sanatana Dharma. After a wonderful breakfast, CHYKs were transported to Vrindavan as Swami Swaroopanandaji described the devotion of the gopis. There were also beautiful bhajans, including ones by Swamini Radhikanandaji, Swami Aparajitanandaji, Br. Sohamji, and Brni. Stutiji. Afterwards, at lunch and dinner, CHYKs took turns participating in seva, directing the flow of traffic, helping seniors carry their plates, and serving water.
Afternoons of Engagement and Expression
Afternoons began with the popular CHYK group reflections, where CHYKs earnestly discussed how to integrate lessons from the discourses into real-world scenarios. This was followed by workshops. The first day was an interactive art workshop with Swami Ishwaranandaji where CHYKs learned how to use carbon copy paper ‒ many for the first time ‒ to make artwork on wood discs, and painted little peg dolls of Lord Krishna.
The next day featured an intensely competitive game workshop! CHYKs answered Jeopardy questions on the history of CHYK, played charades with topics like Samudra Manthan and Sita Swayamvara, drew pictionary depictions of panchabhoota and suryanamaskara, and wrote short skits on modern-day topics like peer pressure, difficult co-workers, and social media usage affecting self-esteem.
On the third day, Swami Ishwaranandaji demonstrated how to perform a traditional 16-step śodaśopacāra pūjā ‒ CHYKs learned about the significance of each step and asked questions about incorporating this sadhana into daily life.
CHYKs even had an impromptu bhajan jam session with Swami Prakashanandaji and 8 brahmacharins, singing an energetic Trinidad-style Hanuman Chalisa, Kabir bhajans, and rejoicing together in energized devotion.
After workshops was the chai and snack break, where a group of CHYKs performed humorous nukkad nataks (street plays) promoting two important Chinmaya Mission initiatives: CORD (Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development) and CVV (Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth).
CHYKs also ran fun sports sessions for JCHYKs and Balavihar students, integrating traditional Indian games such as rumal-jhapatta with unique twists - each player was assigned a different form of God, and the umpire called out not numbers, but facts describing each form.
Evenings of Insight and Inspiration
Evenings were filled with creative cultural programs giving insight into the bhakti of the gopis. Before Gopika Geet discourses, audiences enjoyed unheard stories of Krishna and the Gopis presented cleverly through music, drama, and dance. CHYKs practiced and rehearsed for several months before the camp for these pieces.
Following discourse and dinner, participants were delighted by special performances. These included a Ramayana musical discourse by Swami Prakashananda, and a soul-stirring dance-drama analyzing letters written by Gurudev, both of which were accompanied by CHYKs on orchestra.
Following these festivities, the days concluded with exclusive CHYK satsangs with Swami Swaroopananda and a brahmacharin panel with Brns. Darshanji, Hariji, Jyotiji, Kritikaji, Shubhaniji, and Stutiji. CHYKs inquired about how to address spiritual and personal challenges, and left with their doubts cleared, feeling inspired and invigorated.
The final night was a choreographed Raas Garba performance by CHYKs who raised the energy on the dance floor and got everyone on their feet to dance all together in joy.
The Grand Finale
On Sunday August 3, Gurudev's Mahasamadhi Day, the camp concluded with a Guru Paduka Puja guided by Pandit Ravichandranji. During the puja, Gurudev's presence could be keenly felt as the room vibrated with focused chanting of approximately 1,000 participants. Swami Shantanandaji shared poignant memories about his final moments with Gurudev as he attained Mahasamadhi. This was followed by Swami Swaroopanandaji's closing address which left everyone renewed with commitment to living in alignment with dharma and carrying on Pujya Gurudev's legacy.
The 50th anniversary celebrations of CHYK incorporated Pujya Gurudev's vision of bringing the dynamic energy of CHYKs in doing seva in all aspects of the camp. From senior seva at mealtimes to leading activities for JCHYKs and Balavihar students, the CHYKs built camaraderie and community across all ages of camp participants. We look forward to growing this spirit of seva, sustaining our swadhyaya through scriptural study, and deepening our personal sadhana, into the next 50 years and beyond.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Swami Swaroopananda for his profound discourses on Gopika Geet, Swami Prakashananda for his powerful insights through Manah Shodhanam, Brahmachari Sohamji for his guidance throughout the planning process, and to all of the sevaks who made this journey possible.
